Did you see the June 8 Guitar Hero III tournament at Northpointe Church? All proceeds go to Greenville Middle Academy green efforts. On May 19 & 21, the greenLIFEproject brought Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Live Earth and An Inconvenient Truth to the 6th grade science classes of Greenville Middle Academy.

An EcoFriendly event can occur at a movie opening, a WalMart, or even a school. This movie didn’t have the conservation theme of a Happy Feet but that didn’t matter. We partnered with the Sound of Light thru the greenLIFEproject to set up a booth where kids could learn about sustainability. The kids learned to carpool, recycle and use CFL light bulbs.

Even though the movie opening was set for midnight and it was raining like cats and dogs the turn out for the movie was really good. The greenLIFEproject partners The Sound of Light, 96.7 Shine radio station and Green Arch Design Group had a great time handing out brochures on recycling and going green.

FUSION Explosion was exploding with excitement Friday, June 1st.  There were at least 200 students there, mingling with their friends.  They were also there to hear the group Daylight Wasting, a Christian rock band out of Greer, SC.  Also there that night was Tina Marie, a motivational speaker that travels the country talking about “Truths in secular music” as well as Abstinence.

The Fusion Warehouse Student Center is in an old Wal-Mart building in Anderson, SC.  It is a meeting place for 13-18 year olds.  The building is 66,000 square feet and has a video arcade, a cafe’, movie theaters and a 2000 seat concert area. 

Randall Brown, Fusion coordinator, stated that the youth center is “bringing the community, leaders, and organizations together”.

Free Kool-aid!!! Green Kool-aid at that. 

Members of the greenLIFEproject gave out free cups of Kool-aid at the Toby Mac concert which was held March 29th, at Timmon’s Arena, on the campus of Furman University.

The greenLIFEproject hosted a “tea” at the Bi-Lo Center before the Winter Jam concert in February.  Of course, it was green tea since the project promotes “green” living.  The greenLIFEproject team, which consists of The Sound of Light, NorthPointe Church, Greenville Technical College, and Green Arch Design Group, gave out cups of hot green tea and t-shirts as well as fliers about “green” living.  There were 380 people who signed the greenLIFE pledge which states:

I pledge to do my best to:

• Recycle
• Drive less
• Conserve Water
• Use compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL’s)
• Turn off unnecessary lights and appliances

There were also quite a number of people who asked for more information about “green” living.

Would it rock your world if I told you that God’s favorite color is “green”?  If you don’t believe me, just take a look at the world in which we live.  By far the predominant color is green.  I know that it’s not exactly what is implied these days with the terminology of “green”, but a quick look at John 3:16 and Genesis 1-2 reveal that God’s favorite color actually is “green”. “For God so loved the world…”  Since it’s inception, God has had a “love-affair” with the world (not just humanity, but all of creation) that He created, and He wants us to love the world in the same way that He loves it.  In fact, at the very beginning of time, God gave man the responsibility to oversee the world that He loves.  “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.  God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”  (Genesis 1:27-28, NASU)  With the command to “rule” comes the responsibility of caring for the world in which He placed us.  In other words, we are to be faithful stewards of all that God has entrusted us to “rule” over.  But “rulership” is never exercised without responsibility, and if we, as “rulers” of this world that God has created act irresponsibly we run the risk of destroying the very thing that brings glory to God – His creation, His world.  Living “green” is one way that we can act a s responsible “rulers” of this world in which we live.  So become part of the greenLIFEproject today.  After all, God’s favorite color is “green”.    Tommy Vandiver – Pastor, NorthPointe Church
